As a client of Melbourne Athletic for 4 years I can say that I have most definitely improved my physical attributes and performance through strength/conditioning and rehabilitation. At early stages of my football, participating in u14s football, I experienced stress fractures in my lower back that came about from growth spurts and other participation in strenuous activities – inhibiting me from competing in sport. I was referenced by a coach to undergo strength/conditioning and rehabilitation with Michael Culliver for Melbourne Athletic. During this time Michael worked closely with me perfecting the correct technique and performing exercises aimed at recovering from stress fractures and progressing into strength exercises going forward in my performance. As I recovered from my stress fractures, myself and Michael began working on correct running technique for developing explosiveness and power, assisting my performance progressing into higher levels of football. Progressing into NAB league u18 football, I mentally and physically switched on and began to ramp up my training with Melbourne Athletic and I have certainly reaped the benefits. Working with Melbourne Athletic, I have found that my body has been conditioned properly to my chosen sport, and with this, I have developed a strong attribute to my football ability, which is speed. During 2018, my 20m sprint time was sitting at 3.2 seconds, continuing work with Melbourne Athletic, I improved my 20m sprint to 2.98 seconds by the year 2019. Coming into the fourth year working with Michael and second year of preseason for football, he saw that I was strong enough and ready to progress my speed to even greater lengths. The end of the 2020 pre-season, during the NAB league testing day, I ran the 20 m sprint in 2.89 seconds putting myself in the elite category. Placing myself 5th nationally and 2nd in the state for explosive speed ; in the NAB league competition. Without a doubt I can say that working with elite trainers at Melbourne Athletic, I have been able to improve my speed, enhancing my performance in my chosen sport. I very highly recommend Melbourne Athletic as a training partner.

I reached out to Michael at Melbourne Athletic during our first lockdown in Vic, finding myself less motivated and in need of a quality program to follow as we awaited the news on whether football would go ahead or not. Immediately I was blown away, we met up for a Zoom, went through my goals and focus points and in a matter of days I was sent my first block of training. The program was based off of what I had access to at home with gyms closed, something really helpful as I didn’t have to make alterations to programming and it was easy to follow along, Michael went through the program with me on Zoom before I began. Michael was awesome in helping me get back on track after a lazy stint in iso, regularly checking in and giving me feedback on my form when I sent through videos completing exercises, answering any questions I had and making alterations as strength improved or goals changed – all of which he was more than happy to assist with! I really valued my programming from Melbourne Athletic, there was variety and I felt extremely supported even though I had never met Michael in person, my time with Melbourne Athletic was completely online but it definitely didn’t feel that way.

ACLr rehabilitation

Training with Melbourne Athletic has been the point of difference with my development. 

 

After suffering my second ACL along with a range of ongoing hamstring injuries, I knew I had to take my rehab seriously, the typically prescribed methods weren’t going to cut it this time round. The team at Melbourne Athletic took careful consideration into creating a program along with ongoing sessions which helped the rehab process.

 

Thanks to Justin and the crew I have felt confident in returning to sports with full strength.

I’ve been with Melbourne Athletic since they started. I was the type of girl who didn’t know how to lift correctly or even squat correctly. 

 

These guys helped me achieve so much, I never thought I’d be getting the numbers I am if it wasn’t for these guys. Melbourne Athletic not only coach you but also educate you on what you are doing. I am quite accident prone and these guys have always had my back and helped me with my rehab, all sessions are well planned. 

 

Michael, James and Justin all have sound knowledge and love what they do. I’m happy to be involved in such a good business.
